Frequently Asked Questions

Studying primates is crucial for their protection. By understanding their behaviour, social structures, and ecological roles, we can develop targeted conservation strategies. This knowledge helps us address threats like habitat loss, disease outbreaks, and illegal hunting, ensuring the survival of these fascinating creatures.
A major challenge to primate conservation is habitat loss driven by human activities like agriculture, logging, and infrastructure development. This destruction and fragmentation of their forests not only shrinks their living space but disrupts their food sources and social dynamics.
The world of primate care offers many diverse opportunities. In the UK, you could work at zoos as a keeper, or in sanctuaries providing daily care and enrichment. Research institutions might seek assistants for primate behaviour studies. Overseas, options expand to field research studying primates in their natural habitat, or conservation efforts protecting endangered species.
Working with primates can involve animal care, research, or conservation. Zookeepers typically need a Level 3 Diploma in Zookeeing or animal science degrees and experience, while sanctuaries might require less formal qualifications but emphasise patience and a strong work ethic. Research assistants often have degrees in biology or related fields, while field research usually demands a higher degree (MSc or PhD) and strong field skills. This online Primate Studies Level 3 Award provides a foundation in primate biology, behaviour, and welfare, preparing you for entry-level roles like zoo or sanctuary assistant, and giving you a head start on your primate-working journey!
Yes, you can! Our Primate Studies Level 3 Award is a fully online course so you can study from home whenever you have time available.
